Hermes introduces new app with in-flight delivery options

Delivery giant Hermes has introduced a new mobile application which offers in-flight delivery options allowing customers to change their preferences according to convenience.
As well as receiving notifications on the progress of a delivery, users can track and divert parcels, rerouting them to a neighbour or a safe place mid-transit.

The company will add the ability to reroute to parcel shops or lockers later this year, as well as to book a return using the app.

The application will also in the future support the Hermes Play feature, which allows the sender of a parcel to send a personal video message.

It is available on both iOS and Android.

Chris Ashworth, CIO at Hermes, said: “Our dedicated team of innovators and specialist developers are continuing to shape the future of home deliveries by creating a wave of new and exciting products. This app provides a foundation for many of these new features, which are designed to drive a greater customer experience for our retail clients.”

Hermes said last month it will be able to cut 1.5 million miles off drivers’ routes annually as it adds new double decker trailers. The 32 double decker trailers, designed specially by Don-Bur, will operate out of Hermes’s automated hub in Warrington and Rugby.

Hermes recently announced it would increase volumes of items weighing more than 18kg by more than 20% per year going forward.

Earlier in the month, Hermes said it would replace 15000 dedicated barcode scanners with smartphones running a dedicated Android app provided by computer vision company Scandit.
