Home Retail Group , parent of both Argos and Homebase, is cutting 210 jobs at a distribution centre in Manchester, in a bid to lower costs.

According to a Bloomberg report:

The staff reductions are part of the Milton Keynes-based company’s plan to move the center to a site in Castleford, England, spokeswoman Denise Bigwood said yesterday in a telephone interview. A decision on alternative employment for the workers has not yet been made, Bigwood said.

“The move permits us to make better use of the Castleford facilities which are owned by the group,” Bigwood said. “The proposals are intended to reduce the group’s operating costs.”

Home Retail Group is due to present its interim trading statement, covering the Christmas period, on Thursday 15th January.
