How online is changing the way we shop

In today’s Internet Retailing newsletter, we’re thinking about how online is changing the way we shop. Predictions that click-and-collect would bring visitors to stores find confirmation in news today from the BRC and Springboard that suggests out-of-town stores do appear to be benefitting from the trend, although footfall to town centres is falling. Meanwhile, it seems the convenience of online shopping means we’re leaving it ever later and doing it on the move. There are a number of interesting findings in the data we’ve brought together on Valentine’s Day (it’s tomorrow!): among them the idea that the later it gets, the more extravagant the online present searches. Finally, the effect is also being felt when it comes to complaints: Ombudsman Services says in a new report that complaints about retail are growing along with ecommerce.

We report on Zalando as it reports its first full-year profit, and bring you an interview with Eddie Woffinden of QVC ahead of IRX 2015, where he’ll be speaking on getting merchandising right across channels.

Today’s guest comment is from Jochen Moll, chief executive of Intershop, who analyses the way business to business buying now takes place online.
