Tony Sales was dubbed “Britain’s greatest fraudster” after defrauding retailers of an estimated £30m over a number of years.
Today a reformed character, he’s now working for the retailers, and is expected to be a key draw at IRX 2013, where he is set to share his conclusions after surveying multichannel and pureplay online retailers searching for opportunities for fraud.
“Every day I am demonstrating for leading retailers how the online world has doubled the number of scams and frauds that can be committed against them,” said Sales. “And no matter how hard they try, current approaches are undermined by the fact that they are created by honest people. Until you have seen the world through the eyes of a criminal you simply cannot understand how he works.
“So in my experience most online operations are fundamentally flawed and fraudsters exploit that to steal millions. The worst part of it for retailers is that they don’t have a clue where the losses are occurring.”
Retailers have two opportunities to meet Sales at IRX 2013, and to find out how they can act to prevent fraudsters taking advantage of the opportunities for fraud that he has spotted.
He’ll be holding a limited number of free one-to-one Money for Nothing consultations at the event. Sales will analyse a select number of retailers’ operations before meeting them face-to-face at the event and showing them how they are vulnerable and what they can do about it.
Sales will also be giving a sealed door briefing, Walk on the Dark Side. Attendance is limited to retail, leisure and hospitality businesses only, who will hear Sales explaining how fraudsters select their targets, pick apart their online systems and and commit crimes.
To take part in either event, register for a free ticket to IRX 2013 and tick the Money for Nothing and/or Walk on the Dark Side boxes. Applicants will be notified ahead of the event if they have been successful.
IRX 2013, to be held at Birmingham’s NEC on March 20 and 21, will feature an exhibition of more than 150 suppliers, 12 practical workshops and six conferences.
