Ahead of this year’s InternetRetailing Expo (IRX 2016) (April 27-8, at the NEC in Birmingham) we’re running a series of previews focusing on event highlights, from the conferences to interviews with key retail speakers, and beyond. Today our focus is on the Digital Sales and Marketing conference.

Cross-channel selling presents marketers with a new set of challenges, whether that’s getting to grips with data or realising the potential of personalisation. The Digital Sales and Marketing conference aims to get retail marketers up-to-date both with the very latest developments, and the new basics in this fast-moving industry.

“Digital marketing is increasingly complex but retailers keen to gain the competitive edge are realising that getting to grips with digital can offer more opportunity to reach customers and deliver results,” said conference director Lisa Ploude. “Retailers visiting the digital sales and marketing conference will find out how to use digital to shape a customer-centric culture, deliver more compelling customer experiences ad use data, journey mapping and personalisation to create campaigns and drive behavioural change.”

The conference opens at 10.35am on April 28 when a representative of the Co-operative Group will tackle the subject of Digital transformation from inside out! in a keynote address.

Alison Lancaster, interim marketing director at Bravissimo, then considers how retailers can make the marketing trinity of right message, right place, right time work for them using data and programmatic tools. Making cross-channel work for retail is at 11.10am.

James Peach, head of SEO at House of Fraser, shares the department store’s learnings from its efforts to scale content to meet the demands of search in a half-hour session. He’ll be answer questions such as ‘is there a blueprint for optimising your content for organic search?’ and ‘can this be quantified’ in his presentation, Smartly scaling content to meet demand in search, at 11.45am.

Rebecca Ruddle, head of showrooms at Made.com, is a member of a panel discussing the changing role of the marketer in a world of digital commerce. Digital disruption: hardware, content, technologies and partnerships is at 1pm and is followed by a presentation from the track sponsor.

Nick Bamber, head of digital media and innovation at Asda, considers the use of digital media in internet commerce in his presentation, Using digital media to enhance your ecommerce strategy at 3.45pm.

The conference closes with a keynote address from Neil Dulake, industry head – retail, at Google. Digital as a route to better customer experiences is at 3.20pm.

The Digital Sales and Marketing conference will take place on April 27 2016 at IRX 2016, at Birmingham’s NEC. Find out more about the conference here, and more about IRX 2016 here. Register to visit the show for free here.
