Kiddicare has hired a new logistics partner as it extends its multichannel business.

The nursery retailer, founded in 1974 and bought by Morrisons last year, announced in January that it was to add 10 new stores to its existing Peterborough flagship store. Now it has appointed Wincanton to handle logistics for the stores. Wincanton will refit its 200,000 sq ft site in Daventry to house the operation, which is expected to take delivery of its first goods in July. The site will also handle stock for online orders, though these will continue to be dispatched from the company’s distribution centre in Peterborough.

Grant Henley, operations director at Kiddicare, said: “We needed to find a supply chain partner who we could trust to manage a complex and rapid warehouse start-up that also had the experience and ability to meet the challenges of a multichannel sales environment.”

Guy Elliott, Wincanton’s managing director for contract logistics, said: “We are delighted to be working with a fast growing business like Kiddicare. For a company like this, owned by Morrisons, to choose Wincanton is testament to our industry-leading credentials in the retail sector, expertise in delivering multichannel solutions and our ability to implement full-service logistics solutions quickly and efficiently.”
