US-based Yowza is enabling consumers to search for and download coupons from nearby retailers. Available on the iPhone and the iPod Touch, offers from participating retailers can be found by either entering the consumer’s current zip code or by using the device’s built-in GPS in the case of the iPhone. Once an offer has been selected, a mobile coupon code or barcode can be downloaded for redemption at the checkout.
A ‘My Stores’ tab lets users keep track of all the offers at their favourite stores and they can also opt to receive a notification every time a favourite store adds a new offer.
The new, version two, of Yowza also has a built-in map function that presents customers with a road map identifying all the nearby retailers that currently have an offer.
“We have gotten a great deal of feedback from our consumer users and retail partners — via social media, email and personal conversations — and we are excited about how the new features will add to the overall mobile couponing experience for all parties,” said Greg Grunberg, co-creator of Yowza!! and one of the stars of TV series Heroes. “We are building off of our successful launch to add new features that all of our retailer partners can now take advantage of.”
Yowza!! downloads have increased an average of 46% every month since its launch and more than 200 merchants in over 10,000 locations are now participating, including Sears, McDonald’s, Pier 1 Imports and Saks Fifth Avenue.
“The Yowza mobile application has allowed Pier 1 Imports to target potential customers within the vicinity of a particular store location,” says Jeff Haddox, direct marketing analyst at Pier 1 Imports. “This enhanced targeting allows us to speak in a more concise and relevant manner regarding the event and pricing of an individual store.”
