Mobile will represent as much as 73% of all ecommerce spending this holiday season, with shoppers more likely to see through a purchase and more likely to do it on apps.
According to the latest report from Bitrise and its State of Mobile Shopping report, mobile now dominates ecommerce, with as much as 72.9% of total ecommerce spend taking place on the devices. They are also doing it on apps, with some 88% of consumer mobile use spent using apps rather than mobile web.
These shoppers are also more likely to convert, finds the study. The data suggests that consumers are less likely to abandon their carts while shopping on mobile apps, with a 20% cart abandonment rate, compared to a 97% cart abandonment rate on mobile sites and 68% on desktop sites. Mobile apps see higher conversions than mobile browsers, seeing a 130% higher conversion rate than mobile browsers.
Voice shopping on mobile is growing, with about 60% of Americans likely to use Virtual Assistants, at least a few times a week, when shopping on mobile. According to the survey, he top five commands are browsing for new products, performing a product search, creating shopping lists, searching for product reviews and purchasing products.
However, it isn’t all rosy in mobile. Poor checkouts are traditionally where a significant amount of friction is to be found in ecommerce , with one study showing that the average shopping cart abandonment rate for ecommerce sites is 65.23% – and this is just as true for mobile.
