PEAK 2022 Shopping app use set to surge from Black Friday

with Android making some surprise gains

Use of shopping apps is set to boom in the run up to Black Friday and on to Christmas, with shoppers particularly looking for discounting and couponing apps to counter rising prices.

Predictions for mobile shopping app usage in Q4 from analysts data.ai, predict that some 450 billion shopping app visits will be made this quarter globally – although the data doesn’t cover China – up 22% on last year. With China factored in, that figure leaps to 850 billion visits.

According to the study, despite rising prices, mobile shopping levels are at an all-time high. As of August 2022, US mobile shopping hours experienced 10% YoY growth. This trend, accelerated by the pandemic, highlights the fact that more than ever before consumers are shopping on their mobile devices.

The analysis goes on to forecast that digital traffic in shopping apps will approach 28 billion sessions in the US alone on Android phones, up nearly 10% YoY. Specifically, during the two weeks of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Americans are forecast to spend over 150 million hours on android phones, up 41% from pre-covid levels in Q4 2019.

data.ai also suggests that demand for coupons, rewards and exclusive deals and perks will see strong growth, apparel is set to have a successful holiday season and luxury brands are looking to be among the most resilient to the current turbulent market conditions.
