Access Prepaid Worldwide, the leading global prepaid programme manager and part of the MasterCard Group, has launched a multi-currency cash service that can be managed from an app to make travel, if not cheaper, then at least easier.

Working with retail digital experience specialist, Red Ant, the new Multi-currency Cash Passport app – which is available on both iOS and Android platforms – allows cardholders to manage their multi-currency Cash Passport account quickly and securely from a mobile device.

The app conveniently and securely allows consumers to load money onto the card in up to 10 currencies before travelling (depending on your location). Combining the security of travellers cheques with the convenience of a credit or debit card, the Multi-currency Cash Passport has the ability to lock in exchange rates when you load or reload, so you always know your budget before you travel.

The new Multi-currency Cash Passport app will allow customers easy access to view their ‘purse’ balances and transactions, transfer currencies between individual ‘purses’ and the ability to check current exchange rates, all whilst on the go.

The proliferation of smartphones and tablets has led to consumers expecting easy access to manage their money at all times. Future updates to the app will also see in-app account top-ups enabled and an ATM locator added. The app is available to download now free of charge.

Jon Milsted, Head of Product and Marketing at Access, explains the thinking behind the app: “The creation of this new app is an exciting step forward for the Multi-currency Cash Passport product, bringing it right up to date with digital trends and making it highly competitive in the market place. It showcases what Access can do to link technology, practicality and innovation to help our customers easily access and manage their funds whilst on the go.”

Red Ant’s team of mobile experts worked closely with Access throughout the development, and a dedicated content management system (CMS) means the app can be quickly and easily rebranded in the future for Access’ partners.

“We’ve put lots of work into the back end system to make sure everything is watertight, but also to allow people to access their money without having to enter complicated security details every time they log in,” says Alex Sbardella, Red Ant’s Head of Mobile.

“Simplicity and security were of equal importance in our brief, so we’ve included features such as a session timeout after an extended period of inactivity, coupled with a shortened entry system if the device was simply locked during a session – in contrast to the full log-in process needed if the app is closed down or the user logs out,” continues Sbardella. “The bespoke mobile solution is perfectly designed for Multi-currency Cash Passport users who are always on the move, and often need access to their funds at short notice.”
