On the ups and downs of online retailing

This is an archived article - we have removed images and other assets but have left the text unchanged for your reference

In today’s InternetRetailing newsletter we’re reporting on a week of ups and downs in ecommerce and multichannel retailing. It’s a week in which there have been plenty of both. Tesco, for example, this week reported a rise in online deliveries, but a dramatic fall in sales, following its recent strategy of price cuts, while Asos warned on falling profits while also reporting fast growth in sales. Then new stockmarket entrant AO World reported fast sales growth, while also reporting a fall in profits, while Findel reported growth at its Express Gifts home shopping business but losses at Kitbag.com.

The Internet Retailing Awards 2014, however, will be focusing on the ups, rather than the downs, and today we take a look at the shortlist for the International Award, while also hearing from shortlisted retailer Cult Pens on why the customer is important to its business.

Last, but not least, today’s guest comment comes from Stephen Pavlovich of Conversion Factory, on why a change in company culture is needed in order to improve conversion rates.
