Brentford FC aims to encourage online sales with addition of Buy now, pay later

Brentford FC online shop: driving new sales with new payment tools

While Buy now, pay later payment tools are attracting some negative press attention, football club Brentford FC has become the latest company to offer the payment tool for online purchases.

Working with Openpay, Brentford hopes to capitalise on a run of 18 matches unbeaten by encouraging online merchandise sales with the payment solution, which spreads the cost of online retail purchases over two or three months, interest free on all purchases over £45.

Following an initial upfront payment for all purchases with Openpay, fans will then spread the remaining cost over an interest-free plan.

Football clubs have been hit hard by the lockdowns, with not only slower match day merchandise sales, but also a collapse in ticket sales. Like many, Brentford FC hopes that some of that gap can be filled with retail sales online.

James Parkinson, Commercial Director at Brentford FC, said: “Openpay offers a simple and hassle-free payment option, allowing supporters to spread the cost of their retail purchases with zero interest. This is an innovative addition to our retail offering and one that we hope our loyal supporters will consider during their online shopping experience.”

Andy Harding, UK Managing Director of Openpay, adds: “This is a fantastic partnership for Openpay as Brentford are the team to watch in the Sky Bet Championship this season. With the opening of their new stadium, it’s an exciting period for the Club, and we’re thrilled to be part of it. While we all eagerly await the return of fans on match-day, we’re glad our payment solution can help fans support the Club through the purchase of replica kits and merchandise.”
