While the Covid-19 pandemic has now been officially downgraded from emergency status by the WHO, it has left a lasting legacy in the ways that UK residents now work and shop. Working from home continues to be at higher levels than before the pandemic while shoppers are more likely to buy online than they were beforehand. Levels of both have, however, fallen from peaks seen during pandemic lockdowns.
In the UK, energy prices have boosted inflation, with the price of goods rising sharply. In the year to 23 March, grocery prices rose by 19.2%, according to Office for National Statistics.
