Introducing the Ecommerce Country and Region Reports 2020

The Ecommerce Foundation conducts research in more than 50 countries within ecommerce and business-to-consumer cross-border selling. This research has, since 2015, provided the material that underpins an authoritative series of Ecommerce Country and Region Reports.

In 2020, with the input of RetailX, the Ecommerce Country and Region Reports are being upgraded so that subscribers can now expect:

  • More in-depth analysis of economic and market drivers
  • Information on which sectors are performing most strongly within different territories
  • Detailed performance information on leading retailers and on brands selling direct to consumers
  • Additional research insights, resources, enhanced promotion and design

These changes result from a survey of our 40,000 downloading subscribers. From this we learnt that retailers particularly value:

  • Data on turnover levels and growth rates assessed by country
  • Analysis of ecommerce-specific opportunities and challenges
  • Insights into consumer behaviour and trends
  • Cross-border facts and figures
  • Forecast data

In our survey, we asked respondents what else we could do to increase the value of our service.

The most frequent suggestions were:

  • To give practical insights into implementing new ideas
  • To place individual markets in the context of European competition
  • To increase coverage of cross-border and export opportunities for growth (entry conditions to each market)
  • To provide a forum for questions and discussion of the reports
  • To offer further insight on tools and solutions for ecommerce

In response to this, we will be investing in the Ecommerce Country and Regional Reports. We will draw upon RetailX’s six years of retailer performance tracking to add market rankings, sectoral analysis, and case studies of retailers and brands. Our economic insights cover market drivers and consumer insights as aids to assessing market dynamics.

We will be extending the supporting activity around the reports to encompass:

  • A webinar programme to cover each country and regional report
  • A monthly research webinar or podcast, discussing the issues arising from the reports with studio guests who have expertise in policy, commerce and technology
  • ‘Blue Papers’ – technical solution-focused papers on how to implement technologies and services in support of business growth or the capabilities mentioned in the reports
  • Download packs of the charts and figures from each report for free use in presentations and in articles
