RetailX Nexus 2021: tackling sustainability, inclusion & artificial intelligence

With RetailX Nexus 2021 fast approaching, Digital Editor, Scarlette Isaac decided it was about time to check in with the event director, Anthony Parker to gain his behind the scenes perspective.

What is RetailX Nexus 2021?

RetailX Nexus 2021 is a brand new event format which offers VIP retail representatives the unique opportunity to discuss three pivotal post-pandemic topics:

1.Sustainability

2.Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

3.Customer Intelligence

Delegates will be under Chatham House Rule as to provide a safe space to share everything from products, personal insight and innovative ideas, through to strategies, solutions and visions! We’re talking no sales, no presentations and most importantly, zero chance of Zoom fatigue (phew).

Where & when?

The think tank function will take place live at etc.St Paul’s on Thursday 7th October 2021, running from 9.00AM to 4.05PM. You can see the full agenda here

How do I get involved?

We want people with opinions, open to debate, who want to change minds (including their own) and who have the remit to affect progress in the workplace.

Tell us if our researchers missed you here and we’ll send you an exclusive invite to Nexus 2021.

The 6 week countdown to Nexus is on – what’s the latest?

“I am thrilled by the response to RetailX Nexus and can’t wait to see how this collaboration of minds will spark innovation and actionable insight,” Anthony said.

“The success of Nexus definitely relies on this output of good ideas and an overall enthusiasm to make a difference where it matters. You need the right people for that to happen and I am very excited by the quality of the delegates we have so far.”

Why should people attend?

“Nexus is launching at a critical point, where retailers and brands are recalibrating their strategies. Having the space to share, think, and discuss approaches to tomorrow’s retail landscape with like minded leaders is crucial to moving the conversation forward and making positive change.”

As one guest neatly summed up: “real world, real people and real conversations! What’s not to enjoy.”

What is the reasoning behind the three key topics?

“The three topics we will focus on are, and will continue to, remould the retail business model and affect customer relationships. Therefore, the solutions require more than internal mobilisation.

“Attendees are saying that a more systemic shift needs to happen and that’s exactly what Nexus will assist in: addressing critical challenges and making positive progress.”

One invitee commented: “the event sounds really interesting, the topics are incredibly important and the (British) retail industry is currently lacking imagination in how to tackle them.”

What do you hope to achieve by gathering speakers from different areas in the industry?

“Combining non-retail speakers with retailers who hold a fresh vision primes the discussion that follows. It was important to offer enough time for the delegates to debrief each session in order to let new ideas percolate.

“There is also a real shared urgency amongst the retail community to delve into these issues and address them, one by one. And that’s exactly why Nexus is necessary.”

Final thoughts?

Anthony is keen to bring some additional experiences to the event to enhance the networking.

“But it’s not about show or spectacle” he emphasised.

“Just the traditional benefits of the board room: space, place, confidence, community, clarity of purpose, inquisitiveness and openness.”
