Wayfair is looking for more capacity with Google Cloud move

Wayfair has scaled up its server capacity for peak trading periods by moving its ecommerce site onto Google’s cloud.

The US online furniture company has created a hybrid architecture in Google Cloud including compute, storage, networking, data and analytics and productivity tools.

The solution allows it to boost website capacity up to 100Gbps during the likes of Black Friday and the company’s own discount period “Way Day”. Google will also provide a professional support to manage performance and ensure a strong customer experience.

Wayfair will also be able to analyse data across its ecommerce site in real time.

Steve Crusenberry, VP, infrastructure and platform engineering, Wayfair, said: "As we evolve our public cloud strategy, our customers depend on secure, high performance, and reliable connectivity from our data centres to Google Cloud.

“We turned to Google as our cloud provider because Google’s network has the throughput, bandwidth, and latency required for our business applications.”

"As an ecommerce leader, Wayfair has always been committed to improving the shopping experience with cutting-edge technologies, and that’s why we partnered with an innovator in the retail technology space like Google Cloud.

"Google won us over with the speed, reliability and performance of their technology, but more importantly, their team’s willingness to work side-by-side with us at every level to solve our trickiest scaling challenges."
