Sainsbury’s is relaunching its same-day delivery and click and collect offerings, having previously switched off its same-day services during the pandemic.
The ‘super-fast’ home delivery service operates from more than 250 UK stores and was first launched in 2016. Customers who order before midday can chose a post 5pm delivery slot or a collection from their local store after 4pm. Sainsbury’s company plans to expand the same day service to a further 100 stores by the end of October.
In addition, the company is expanding its Chop Chop one-hour delivery service, through which customers can order up to 20 items, to a further 25 stores. The service will now be available in 75 stores across around 25 cities in the UK. Sainsbury’s originally expanded the delivery by bike service outside of London for the first time in May last year with the announcement of a 50 store rollout.
Sainsbury’s says it now has capacity for 850,000 online grocery orders a week. The supermarket giant is also planning to continue the expansion of its rapid delivery services through partnerships with Deliveroo and Uber, with 20-minute deliveries to be offered through 500 stores by the end of this month.
Nigel Blunt, Sainsbury’s director of ecommerce, said: “Customer demand for shopping online and for getting groceries quickly and conveniently has grown significantly and we are committed to offering customers choice and flexibility – whether that’s within 20 minutes to their front door or picking it up at their local store on their way home from work.”
