Following the successful launch of its m-web strategy and iPhone app earlier this year, online comparison website Shopping.com continues its move into mobile with the launch of an Android app for the UK market. The free application marks the next phase of the company’s mobile strategy, increasing compatibility of the app across the mobile market, giving all consumers the opportunity to compare prices and achieve the best deals wherever they are.

As with the iPhone application, its ‘people also searched for’ function will be available, ensuring consumers can find their perfect product easily. The mobile applications, including the android version, aim to change the way consumers shop, helping them make informed purchasing decisions by giving them access to product information, reviews and price comparisons wherever they are. The application will give users access to thousands of products, as well as unbiased product reviews, written by shopping.com customers and the Epinions community.

“2010 is fast becoming the year of the app, with the Android operating system opening up the market,” says Iain Wilson, UK MD, Shopping.com. “Alongside this, we have seen a surge in online shopping, with many e-tailers consistently giving consumers a better deal than their high street counterparts. The Shopping.com application merges these two worlds, giving users the opportunity to find out all they need to know and compare prices on the move, to ensure they are getting the best deal possible.”

With the smartphone market booming, it is unsurprising that mobile services are fast becoming the focus for many companies. Consumers are no longer happy with static information, and want to be able to ‘social shop’, and find out anything and everything on the move. By working with its network of trusted online merchants, Shopping.com solves the product dilemma, and its new mobile applications will take that to the next stage, enabling social shopping for consumers to make real time decisions when purchasing goods on the high street. Consumers also have the option to email friends and family with products they like in the ‘My Shopping’ section, which is then saved up for future reference.

The Shopping.com Android app is compatible with all phones running on Android OS 1.4 or later. To download the application, you will need to visit the Android Market on your phone and using a keyword search, find the app and download it from there.
