The UK’s largest supermarket Tesco is expanding its online beauty offering, with nearly 500 products from brands such as Maybelline, L’Oreal Paris and Essie now available on tesco.com for both home delivery and Click and Collect.

Data from Tesco showed that Maybelline is the most searched for cosmetics brand on tesco.com. This follows the addition of Rimmel and Sally Hansen to the Tesco website and app last year. With Tesco working to make it even more convenient for customers to get everything they need when shopping at Tesco.

Marianne Aitken, Tesco’s category director for beauty and personal care, said: “Delivering beauty products from Maybelline, L’Oreal Paris and Essie direct to customers, or for convenient collection from the majority of our large stores, means that we can save customers a trip and help them get even more choice and great value from Tesco.”

A company profile in the first UK 360° report looks at how Tesco was an early adopter of online shopping and launched its Tesco Direct service in 1997. Today, it deals with 1.2mn ecommerce orders in the average week. In 2023, it employed more than 196,000 full-time equivalent employees and sold through 4,169 stores in the UK.

Its strategy combines value with the convenience offered by a multichannel sales model. Additionally, the supermarket is using AI technology in areas including range optimisation and in personalisation of Tesco Clubcard offers.

It is also working towards net zero carbon emissions across its value chain by 2050, validated by the Science Based Targets Initiative. By 2025, it aims to ensure that healthy products account for 65% of its sales volumes.
