Tesco is recruiting for 16,000 new permanent roles, including warehouse staff and drivers, to support its online business.
The UK supermarket plans to hire 10,000 order pickers and 3,000 delivery drivers, with the remainder of the roles supporting stores and distribution centres.

Most of the roles will be recruited from temporary staff who joined during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tesco has already added 4,000 permanent jobs during the pandemic, as it saw the share of sales online rise from 9% to 16%. The company now serves nearly 1.5 million customers online per week, compared to 600,000 prior to the pandemic.

Jason Tarry, Tesco UK & ROI CEO, said: “Since the start of the pandemic, our colleagues have helped us to more than double our online capacity, safely serving nearly 1.5 million customers every week and prioritising vulnerable customers to ensure they get the food they need.

“These new roles will help us continue to meet online demand for the long term, and will create permanent employment opportunities for 16,000 people across the UK.”
