Tesco has launched online shopping in Slovakia, enabling customers in Bratislava and surrounding towns to order online for home delivery.
Shoppers can choose from almost 20,000 lines of fresh and frozen food, other groceries and non-food items such as toys, newspapers and magazines.
“This is a new innovative offer for the Slovak market and we believe that the service will help Slovak customers in today’s hectic world, not just by making shopping easier, but also saving them time.” said Martin Dlouhý, chief executive, Tesco Slovakia.
The move is part of Tesco’s strategy to become an international multichannel retailer, and adds to existing operations in South Korea, Poland and the Czech Republic as well as in the UK and Ireland.
“We’ve used our learning and experience from our existing online operations in the UK, Ireland, South Korea, and more recently in the Czech Republic and Poland, to create an innovative IT platform that is industry leading and scalable,” said Ken Towle, online food and internet retailing director.
Tesco has operated in Slovakia since 1996 when it bought seven K-Mart department stores. Today it has more than 126 stores and more than 9,500 staff.
