Just Eat , the UK online marketplace for takeaways, has expanded its presence in Europe and South America. It says the new acquisitions, worth €125m, will help it towards its ambition of leading in the markets where it operates.
The company today said it had bought Spanish online takeaway business La Nevera Roja, along with hellofood Italy, hellofood Brazil and hellofood Mexico.
Just Eat says the deal works with its strategic aim of being the market-leader in the countries that it operates in so that it can benefit from economies of scale. It says the takeaway delivery market in the four territories is worth more than £8bn, and that there is scope for expansion.
“This transaction reflects our ambition to make strategic, value-enhancing acquisitions that consolidate our leadership of the global digital marketplace for takeaway food delivery,” said chief executive David Buttress. “Just Eat has enhanced its market-leading positions in geographies that we understand, and where our existing businesses are performing strongly.”
