EDITORIAL Retailers invest online as ecommerce takes a greater share of overall sales

Online sales may have grown in June, but overall retail sales are at the lowest that the BRC has yet recorded, it said today. The same figures suggested that ecommerce accounted for more than 30% of retail sales during the month. New research from Retail Economics suggests that more than half of all retail transactions will take place online within the next decade – and names the three key trends expected to drive that growth.

Ocado reports growing half-year sales as more retailers sign up to use its ecommerce technology and robotic automation fulfilment centres – but its losses have widened following a fire that destroyed its Andover fulfilment centre.
