River Island to drop Flash site by end of year

River Island is to bring out a new version of its website by the end of the year, reports Econsultancy.

CEO Richard Bradbury told a Manchester Fashion Network event “We are actually in the process of moving away from our current Flash-based retail site. This evolvement has taken longer than we had anticipated although we are due to launch our new site later this year.”

First launched in 2006, the fashion retailer’s all Flash website has been controversial since the day it was launched — in particular for the complete lack of an accessible version suited to disabled visitors.

Despite the controversy, however, riverisland.co.uk is the 37th most visited ecommerce site in the UK…
