Online sales at johnlewis.com rose by almost a third in the run up to Easter, the company said today.

In the week to April 23, ecommerce sales at the John Lewis website rose by 31.9%, compared to the same time last year. That compares with growth of 27.7% in the first 12 weeks of the company’s financial year.

Jonathon Brown, head of online selling at John Lewis, said all directorates and buying offices saw sales up on the year, with “notable outperformances in womenswear and accessories, where our customers continue to enjoy the new season offers on the site.”

Across the group, sales rose by 7.6%, compared to 2010. Brown said sales were strong in sunglasses, up by 47%, childrenswear, where own-brand was up by more than 50%, and in home, where sales of Royal Wedding commemorative items helped push revenues up by 14%.

Meanwhile, sister company Waitrose reported a 22.9% rise in online sales over the week, compared to 18.4% growth so far this year.
