Amazon continues delivering customer satisfaction by announcing today the launch of Home Services in the UK, which offers product installation and assembly support.

Customers shopping for products on Amazon.co.uk are now able to schedule a selection of trusted professional services for home product management during the checkout.

Each service comes with a predefined scope of work and upfront pricing. It features a curated list of handpicked tradespeople including general handymen, electricians, plumbers and home cinema specialists. All professionals are background checked, required to carry an applicable license or insurance and expected to maintain an excellent performance standard.

Shoppers can add pre-packaged services right to their accounts’ baskets with just a few clicks and are only charged when the service is completed. Amazon’s ’Happiness Guaranteed,’  which allows customers to rate the quality of the service or get their money back in case if they aren’t happy with the outcome is backing all the service purchases to offer extra reassurance to clientele in the products they purchase.

To mark the inauguration of Amazon Home Services independent research was commissioned, which surveyed 1,500 UK adults to understand consumers attitude towards getting professional help with their household tasks.

Some 77% of Britons surveyed say that knowing who to trust is the hardest part about picking a service professional. Even so, 66% of the research participants reveal that they would instead enlist the help of a professional for household product installation, with 24% admitting that they have suffered a DIY disaster.

Almost a half (47%) admit that they need “a little help,” as they simply have no idea when faced with a challenge around the house.

As it appears Brits busy lifestyle is to blame for their DIY failures, with 38% of UK adults citing “lack of time” as the reason they put off household work.

The study concludes by revealing that two years is the longest time on average that jobs around the house are ignored.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding Amazon Home Services to the UK as a simple way to book trusted, service professionals,” says Scott Webster, general manager at Amazon Home Services Europe.

“Following our successful launch in the U.S., customers have told us they love the convenience and peace of mind that comes with trusted, professional installation of their products. We’re delighted to be able to offer this same experience to UK customers through a network of handpicked, local tradespeople and service providers.”

Amazon Home Services features a growing list of recognised service providers, including Fantastic Services, Assembly Angels, Silver Saints and The Handy Squad.

’Assembly Angels is truly excited to work with Amazon.co.uk on providing services to our mutual customers,” says Anthony Johnston, owner of Assembly Angels.

“We appreciate Amazon’s innovative and refreshing approach to ensuring customer satisfaction, and we’re confident that working with Amazon Home Services will help expand our customer base so our business can continue to grow.’’

Amazon has officially jumped on the bandwagon of retailers offering services that accompany their purchase. Last week, John Lewis announced the acquisition of Opun, which manages home improvement projects on customer behalf. Meanwhile, Halfords said that the introduction of the store and network service to customers saw a boom in physical-store pickups by more than 85% of online orders.
