Dunelm sees online grow 38%, even with stores open; click and collect increasingly popular

The Worldstores acquisition should improve Dunelm’s online service

Dunelm has maintained its strong online growth, even as stores reopen, with digital sales up 38% year-on-year. Sales across all channels including stores was up an impressive 44%, says the company.

The Leading retailer in RXUK Top500 research is predicting a full-year pre-tax profit of around £158m, with pent-up demand for homewares from customers who want to shop in-store continuing to play through, the company says.

The importance of physical stores is also seen in its online growth, with click and collect accounting for around a quarter of all online sales.

Dunelm CEO, Nick Wilkinson, said the company had invested in its digital capabilities during the pandemic to adapt to the changing environment.

He says: “From what we have learned during the pandemic about our customers, colleagues, suppliers and our other stakeholders, we are more confident than ever about the opportunity to increase our market leadership and we will invest further in our proposition to support our growth ambitions.”

Wilkinson adds: “With many exciting developments in the pipeline to make us the first choice for home, and grow our customer base and frequency, there is a lot to look forward to.”

Dunelm has surfed the wave of homewares expansion in 2020, which has seen the global homeware market hit growth not seen in its history. For more, download RetailX Homewares Sector Report.
