Evo-Stik, a world leader in adhesive and sealant technology (that’s glue to the rest of us) has developed an iPhone app that offer product advice and stock details for the UK’s DIY enthusiasts and tradesmen – letting would be bonders enter the two different materials they wish to stick together and get recommendations as to the right product to do the job. This, we assume, will make their m-commerce customers more ‘sticky’ [careful – Ed].

The free app will enable customers to access product advice alongside a quick store finder to locate stockists throughout the UK. It will allow users to either pick the two surfaces they plan to stick together using an interactive carousel, or browse by category if they are looking for a specific product. The corresponding search and browse results are then presented in product lists that can be filtered by Trade, DIY and Repairs categories, and once a product is chosen the user can find their nearest stockist based on pack size, current location or postcode.

The app will also offer the ability to call the store directly from the phone to check stock levels before travelling and view the location on a map to plan the journey. Favourite products and stockists can then be stored so that they can be referenced quickly again in the future.

“Our applications development team have produced a product-focused application that offers real value to the tradesman and DIY enthusiast,” said Colin McCaffery, Director of Products, 2ergo,which developed the app for the company. “This application has been created to give users instant access to product advice and information. It displays the power of mobile as a marketing channel because it targets a user’s exact location to provide specific local stock information to them on-the-move.”

Jon Griffiths, Product Manager for Evo-Stik, comments: “The use of such technology within the building trade and DIY sectors is a market first and demonstrates Evo-Stik’s continued commitment to driving innovation. This solutions-based approach will help simplify the purchasing process for customers making it accessible from home, the building site or even when in store.”

The app is also likely to help Evo-Stik bond with its customers through the mobile channel [You’re fired – Ed].
