The metaverse is set to revolutionise the digital economy – but how? While that is still unclear, it is increasingly apparent that France and the UK lead the way in interest in this new way to access the web.
Interested in emerging technologies, Walkme.com utilised the latest data from online analytics tool SEMrush to establish which countries in Europe are most curious about the metaverse.
And it found that France ranks number one with an average 1,020 monthly online searches about the metaverse per million internet users in the country. In second position is United Kingdom. There are an average 942 online searches a month per million British internet users regarding the metaverse.
Switzerland (831), Germany (778) and Belgium (659) are among the other European countries where there are more than 700 online searches each month for the metaverse per million internet users, respectively ranking third, fourth and fifth.
At the other end in tenth position is Sweden. There are an average of 304 online searches a month per million Swedish internet users on the metaverse.
According to Walkme.com, the key fundamentals of the metaverse and its success are likely to centre on the following:
- Decentralised – Underpinned by blockchain technology, all transactions that take place within the metaverse will be public and easily traceable, hence highly safe.
- Immersion amplified – The metaverse will be a very realistic space where users can control various aspects of their experience such as colours, lighting, and objects they encounter.
- Virtual freedom – Since the metaverse is not owned by an organisation or single platform, users will be able to enter the metaverse at any time and from anywhere in the world. There are also no capacity limits on how many people can use the metaverse at once.
- Endless – The metaverse is endless, it is always active and cannot be reset or unplugged. Likewise, there are no restrictions on the type of industries or activities that can take place in the metaverse.
