IRX 2015 PREVIEW The omnichannel store of the future conference

We’re running a regular series of previews ahead of Internet Retailing Expo (IRX 2015) focusing on different aspects of the event and interviewing speakers. Today our focus is on the Omnichannel Store of the Future Conference.

Retailers who want to win the custom of on-the-move shoppers who move freely between online and offline must serve them across channels. This omnichannel approach has led to new ways of bringing digital retailing into the store. These are analysed and assessed in the Omnichannel Store of the Future Conference, part of IRX 2015.

“Internet Retailing In-Store will give retailers the tools they need to help shoppers feel connected in more than one space and showcase strategies for aligning online with in-store,” said conference director Lisa Ploude. “More specifically, this conference will look at how mobile can assist the shopping experience in store, through a variety of different means: free wi-fi, iPad kiosks, store map apps and mobile payments.”

Jon Rudoe, digital and technology director at Sainsbury’s, opens the conference with a practical guide to making omnichannel shopping a reality. His keynote address, Top tips for developing a winning multichannel shopping experience, is at 10.35am.

A morning of presentations then considers how to create effective in-store digital retailing.

Claire Zuurbier, head of development, digital stores, at Marks & Spencer, considers the digital renaissance that’s helping to reinvent the high street. Her presentation, Online and the rebirth of the high street, is at 11.45am.

Then John Mulliken, senior VP, strategic initiatives international at Wayfair considers the thinking behind a omnichannel logistics. His presentation, Developing a strategy for successful omnichannel delivery, is at 12.30pm.

A panel discussion around The omnichannel store of the future, featuring speakers including Michel Koch, ecommerce director at Maplin Electronics, is at 1.05pm.

Then, Gail Lyon, group social media lead at The Co-operative Group, debates ways that social networking can influence the way customers shop. Her presentation, Social networking and platforms to drive crosschannel shopping behaviours, is at 1.50pm.

Alison Lancaster, interim group marketing director at McArthurGlen Group, then looks at strategies for using technology to improve the shopping journey. Her presentation, Bridging technology and customer experience, is at 2.25pm.
