Online greetings card company Moonpig has created its first AR experience featuring a mini-game, to run in parallel with its Christmas TV ads, bringing the campaign to life.
Created by 3D platform Poplar Studio, the AR experience, launched on WebAR using 8th Wall, asks users to collect gifts that are falling from the ceiling using a Christmas sack. On the welcome screen, the Christmas Moonpig from the TV ad is animated.
The user then places the Christmas sack virtually in their environment and uses their finger to move it around in order to catch the different falling gifts. The effect will also ask users to take a photo/selfie at the end of the game and share it on social media.
Augmented reality tech has been transforming the ecommerce space as shopping habits changed throughout the pandemic, and with users 70% more likely to retain information when delivered through AR compared to traditional advertising, it’s become increasingly essential to brands.
Simon Hills, Director of Marketing & Brand at Moonpig, says: “We’re really excited about our first foray into AR, it provides the perfect platform to bring together our Christmas moonpigs and fantastic gift range. All wrapped up in a fun, but harder than it looks, game! I’m sure consumers will enjoy it and I look forward to seeing the levels of engagement.”
David Ripert, CEO and co-founder of Poplar Studio, adds: “The ecommerce space has become increasingly crowded and brands are finding new ways of standing out to customers. Augmented reality helps facilitate this and is proven to increase user engagement. We’re excited to be working with such a well-known online gifting brand such as Moonpig to bring their campaign to life through AR technology, enhancing the customer experience.”
