Two online retailers are among the winners of this year’s Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in International Trade.
The Book Depository , in Gloucester, and London women’s wear and maternity clothes specialist Isabella Oliver are among 95 winners of this year’s prestigious awards, which recognise companies’ contribution to international trade.
The Book Depository, founded in 2004, won after increasing its turnover by 51.7% in the past year to more than £61m. A member of the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 in 2008 and 2009, more than 60% of its revenue came from outside the UK last year. The company sells books to customers in more than ninety countries, and its free delivery service includes, as of this year, a US site and an eBook store.
Managing director Kieron Smith said: “Winning the Queen’s Award for International Trade is a great honour for The Book Depository. We are thrilled. We have worked hard to offer fantastic service for our customers around the world and this award recognizes the many successes we have achieved.”
Isabella Oliver, founded in 2003, marked the recognition with a one-day 20% off promotion. “We always want to share big moments and this certainly is one,” said co-founder Baukjen de Swaan Arons on the Isabella Oliver blog. She added: “We are very thankful of this award and very proud of the team and this achievement.”
The company was founded in 2003 and now has dedicated websites for Europe, the US, Canada and, from 2009, Australia.
