Spanish supermarket DIA launches one-hour grocery delivery service

DIA, a Spanish supermarket chain, has launched a one-hour delivery service that covers the majority of the country’s population.
Called Express Shipping, the service provides a curated assortment of 1000 products, operating from 400 stores across the country. It is available to over 60% of the total Spanish population and 90% of households in cities with over 50,000 people.

The service is offered through the dia.es website with a fixed cost of €4.90 regardless of distance, or €3.50 for orders costing over €30.

DIA has worked with on-demand app Glovo and last-mile specialists Grupo Mox. The latter will handle the delivery in Barcelona and Valencia, while Glovo will cover the rest of the country.

Diego Sebastián de Erice, director of online at DIA Spain, said: “With the incorporation of the ‘Express Shipping Service’ to our ecommerce, we are taking another step in the DIA transformation process.

“We improve our value proposition of the online shopping service and we respond to the purpose of being closer to our customers every day, committed to their real needs.

“DIA is proximity. A concept that, in addition to physical closeness, implies being when and in the way your customers need you. We have detected that consumers demand greater immediacy in their purchases, they want to solve their food needs in a short time and without the need to plan in advance; this is where this project was born.”
