Decathlon has teamed up with a start-up to offer new click and collect options in Hungary.

The sports retailer is working with Estonia’s Cleveron to install two types of click and collect lockers to dispense online orders.

Customers who have bought a product online simply go to the store, display their order code on their smartphone and retrieve their parcel. Depending on the model customers can enter a PIN code by hand.

The retailer plans to install the products in several stores across the country.

“We are investing approximately €250,000 this year to offer the best service for our customers. All in an effort to give them more time to be outside and be active,“ said Decathlon Hungary’s online marketing director Gergely Román.

Cleveron’s CEO Arno Kütt said: “The growth of ecommerce is not a surprise to anyone. Successful retailers are looking for solutions on how to deal with growing parcel volumes because it increases the workload for employees and brings additional costs. Queuing in the store to get a parcel also makes for a negative customer experience.

Decathlon is known as an innovation-minded company, who, similarly to us, values the time of both its employees and customers. With our products, Decathlon can now hand out parcels in a matter of seconds.”

In June Decathlon began offering two-hour delivery in Spain, while in May it introduced a scan and go solution in the Netherlands.
