The Book Depository, the second largest online bookseller in the UK and the fastest growing bookseller in the world, has launched a website aimed at the North American market.

The new BookDepository.com site takes the best of what the business has offered internationally and tailors it for the American market, says the firm.

The online bookseller says its objectives for the new site are to be able to regionalise content delivery and merchandising and to develop a platform for further international expansion.

“The launch of a tailored dot com website is a crucial step towards developing our brand internationally and offering locally appropriate content and pricing,” explains Kieron Smith, the firm’s managing director.

Founded in July 2004, the online retailer was recently placed fifth in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 and scooped the Direct Bookseller of the Year award at this year’s British Book Awards.

The Book Depository announced that it was focussing on becoming a ‘world bookseller’ last year, and already more than 50% of its £62m ($100m) annual sales are international.
