vente-privee falsely announces UK exit in bizarre Brexit mishap

vente-privee emailed customers this week to announce it was leaving the UK due to economic uncertainty – before promptly sending another email saying it wasn’t.

The brand had initially emailed customers to say it was shutting up shop in the country from 6 March after 11 years in the country.

It blamed current “economic uncertainty” for the decision and said it would take an indefinite “break” from selling in the country.

However, customers then received another email with the header “Brexit is driving us mad!”

The message said that “Brexit madness” had taken over its teams who had “by mistake” informed them of a sales shutdown.

“However be reassured, we definitely intend to keep offering you the best deals as we have been doing for 11 years.”

It was unclear whether the inconsistency arose from a change of heart or an initial mistake as claimed.

The retailer said in January that it would bring together all its European brands in order to offer a one-stop online shop. ‘Veepee’ brings together fashion brands such as France’s, Privalia in Spain and Italy and Eboutic in Switzerland. The websites of all these brands now automatically divert users to the new site.

However, last month saw Yves Rocher announce that it genuinely would be leaving the UK.
Customers must place last orders before 14 March as the brand embarks on a clearance sale, which includes free gifts when the customer spends over £43. Free delivery is also available on orders of over £29.

The company gave no further detail on its reasons for leaving the market, leaving it open to speculation whether the UK’s exit from the European Union or other factors might have impacted the decision.
