Online sales grew by 10.1% in February: ONS

Online sales grew by 10.1% in February, compared to the same month last year, Government figures showed today.

The ONS Retail Sales report for February 2015 showed that while ecommerce sales grew year-on-year, they fell by 2.3% compared to the previous month, of January 2015. Overall, UK shoppers spent an average of £756.8m online each week.

In February 2015, digital sales accounted for 11.6% of all retail sales. Overall, the quantity of goods bought from UK retailers rose by 5.7%, year-on-year, while the amount spent increased by 2.2% over the same period.

Online spending in household goods stores grew by 53.5% over the month, compared to the previous year, to account for 6.4% of the total spent with them. Department store ecommerce spending grew by 8.8%, to account for 10.1% of all spending in this category, while food spending grew by 9.6% to make up 4% of all food retail sales in the UK.
