Unexpected or expensive delivery costs biggest reason for cart abandonment

Unexpected or expensive delivery costs are the biggest reason for shoppers abandoning carts online, according to new research.
The study by Affilinet, showed that shoppers typically abandoned goods in online baskets once every two weeks – at a cost of £95 on average. The cost of delivery was cited as the most common reason for abandonment with 23% of shoppers surveyed saying that was why they hadn’t completed the purchase.

The average cost of delivery which triggered an abandon basket response was £7.00. Clothing, electrical items, furniture and holidays were the items most regularly abandoned.
