Prasad Joshi, UNBXD’s director of data science and Joel Layton, retail executive and former VP of ecommerce at The Children’s Place, joined InternetRetailing for a recent webinar, How AI and Machine Learning Affect Retail in 2019. Here’s a brief overview of what they covered.
Joshi opened the webinar by outlining the problems posed by search for etailers. There is a growing need to cater for long tail search queries, provide dynamically relevant results and detect intent.
However, all of this needs to be managed alongside ease of use, the ability to report from within the tool and from outside through web analytics. Companies need to consider their existing infrastructure to ensure the solution or product they are evaluating integrates well with other systems.
Layton then took over the presentation to explain how he had grappled with these issues at rue21 and The Children’s Place.
The webinar finished with a lively Q&A session, with questions covering areas such as what role brands can play, the benefits AI can bring to outgoing marketing communications and some basic steps that retailers can take straight away.
