Asda aims for transparency with new community site

Asda has launched Your Asda, a community forum where customers are encouraged to interact and share their views with the supermarket. The site also contains useful information for customers and chatty articles giving background information on how the grocer does business and runs its operations.

The site is built around blog functionality and contains lots of video, a store finder, a Twitter feed, explanatory articles and many calls to interact with questions like “What local produce would you like to see in store?”.

The site also includes a publicly viewable staff area, called The Green Room, in which staff are encouraged to post news and views — but only after they’ve read the firm’s ‘Don’t blog your way into trouble‘ warning. This informs staff that “Asda monitors the use of external Internet sites on a weekly basis and can view all entries made with reference to Asda” and provides a list of actions that “could lead to disciplinary action and in serious cases result in dismissal.”
