Morrisons teams up with Gopuff for 20 minute grocery deliveries

Morrisons has added a new fast delivery partner

Morrisons is working with Gopuff to offer shoppers fast delivery within 20 minutes of ordering in locations across the UK.

From today, shoppers can order from a range of thousands of the supermarket’s food and grocery items, for delivery via Gopuff.

David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons, says: “Gopuff is an acknowledged leader and innovator in rapid delivery and this partnership will enable us to deliver a very strong range of Morrisons fresh food and customer favourites to front doors across the UK in a matter of minutes.”

Morrisons says the new service will enable it to give shoppers fast access to local products that vary by area, such as Henderson’s Relish in Sheffield and Sheldon’s Oven Bottom Muffins in Lancashire.

Yakir Gola, co-founder and co-chief executive of Gopuff, says: “Morrisons’ product offering, sustained focus on supporting local producers and suppliers, as well as their relentless commitment to the customer, made this an ideal partnership for Gopuff. As we continue to expand Gopuff’s presence and product offering across the UK, we’re proud to partner with one of the largest and most beloved brands in the market. Morrisons can now meet their loyal customers where they are, and we look forward to bringing local Gopuff customers access to more of the products they love.”

GoPuff currently operates in more than 20 UK cities, having launched in the UK market last November. Under the partnership, Gopuff will have control of the end-to-end delivery supply chain, while Morrisons will control manufacturing’s wholesaling and retailing. Together they will develop localised set-ups for customers around the country, and aim to evolve in line with the latest consumer trends and news.

Excess food will be donated to the Too Good To Go app, so that food that would otherwise go to waste can be bought and collected by users.

The move takes Morrisons another step into the fast delivery market and follows a strategy of working with a range of partners in order to make its products widely available through digital channels. It already sells through channels including Amazon Prime grocery delivery services and Deliveroo, and supplies Amazon Fresh checkout-free stores. Gopuff’s 20-minute delivery promise puts it outside the 10-minute deliveries offered by ultra rapid delivery providers such as Getir, but the trade-off appears to be the ability to serve a larger geographic area.
