Payment processor Retail Decisions says it can now process transactions in the local language virtually anywhere in the world. The announcement comes after the company upgraded its real-time fraud detection service ReD Shield to accept multi-byte and double-byte characters.

This is significant for those doing business in Asia because it makes Japanese, Chinese and Korean, whose written characters use three bytes, available as language options on its systems. Western European and non-Asian language characters normally require less than two bytes.

Retail Decisions was one of the first fraud prevention providers to offer its services in the Far East and Asia and today it has more than 60 clients in China, Singapore and Japan.
